My work is based on personal experience with mental and physical illness. Humor, sarcasm and irony are all very prevalent in my pieces. In essence, when life forces me to make that choice between laughing and crying, I choose laughter with extreme prejudice.
I enjoy putting a feeling of uneasiness in my work, so the viewer doesnt quite know how they should react. My work is personal to me, but it contains elements that allow anyone to share in the emotions. I dissect my own experiences and create the pieces around them. Every aspect of the experience is considered and selected details are portrayed. Like a three-legged dog, my work contains just enough humor to make a bad situation comical.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metalworking & Jewelry from Northern Illinois University under the training of Lee Barnes Peck. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Fine Arts degree at the same institution. I have worked closely with Taweesak Molsawat and James Obermeier in this program. I have actively participated in workshops hosted by Robert Ebendorf, Marilyn da Silva, Richard Mawdsley and Thomas Mann. I have also taught beginning jewelry classes at Harper Community College in Palatine IL. All of these experiences have had profound influence on me.
The technical aspects of my work are usually restricted to fabrication and casting. I generally work in sterling silver, as well as any other materials I need to get the results I desire
